Fine Art:
Natasha and Victor studied art since they were children. They went through several art schools before being accepted to the Academy of Fine Arts. It is the oldest art school in Russia that kept its traditions through the ages. After the graduation in 1982/83 they got accepted into the Artists' Union - a professional organization that supports artists. For nearly ten years Natasha Mokina and Victor Pakhomkin worked in their studio right in the heart of St. Petersburg. Those were the years of their artistic formation. During that time they created paintings that appeared in many different shows in St. Petersburg, Moscow and abroad, won many competitions and were published. Their paintings were purchased by the Ministry of Culture.
After moving in August of 1991 Natasha Mokina and Victor Pakhomkin continued their artistic carriers in Washington, DC area. Now they successfully work in their studio in Bethesda. You will find their recent paintings on the following pages.Teaching:
Since 1997 teaching traditional methods of painting and drawing became a very important part of their lives. Teaching other people helps Natasha and Victor to verbalize their artistic concepts, to formulate their subconscious impulses in painting. In their Bethesda studio they teach small groups of dedicated students four times a week. These classes have a private atmosphere and remarkable results. "These artists bring a long history of an art system deeply rooted in classical training and techniques. These roots owe their birth to Peter the Great, who envisioned a Russian Academy of Fine Arts early in the 18th century whose aim was to develop a distinct Russian identity via an unique combination of classical European and native Russian influences." – Lennox Campello, Fraser Gallery. Natasha Mokina also teaches at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. |
